What is the best dry white wine this holiday season?

Cassidy S asked:

My new father-in-law is a very picky wine drinker. He only likes European dry white wine. Which wine do you think is the best?

That’s a tough one. Not many European whites are very dry. Maybe something Italian?

!!!!!!!!Emmiducki is flat out wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Almost all European white wines are dry or very dry with exception of many German and some Austrian and some late-harvested Bordeaux and Hungarian.

There are tens of thousands; who can say there is a best one?
But for us, if we absolutely had to pick we would most often choose an Alsatian, either a pinot gris or a reisling.

Try the Kim Crawford Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2006. It’s from NZ, not Europe, but you can impress him by telling him it’s #40 on the Wine Spectator top 100 list with 92 points.

Wine Spectator describes it as follows:

Concentrated and complex, with vivid passion fruit, grapefruit and tangy peach flavors. Vibrant minerality and tangy lime juice acidity keep thumping through the finish. Drink now. 65,000 cases imported. –DS
