Chianti's are definitely good for lighter dishes - I tend to pair it with pasta dishes. As for what to put with dessert - try port, icewine or late harvest wines. The concept behind a perfect match in this category is to not let the wine be sweeter than the dessert. If your dessert is fruit based, try a Late Harvest Vidal or a Vidal (or Riesling) Icewine. If you are having something chocolately, go with a red Icewine like Cabernet Franc or Shiraz Icewine.

Eiswein is very sweet. Don't spoil the taste by serving some awful cake. Of course as many have said, port is good choice. Deco is a great choice, it is infused with the essence of chocolate. Quady Elysium Black Muscat is another good option.

Depends on the dessert.
Would you like a sweet wine? Ports, as someone mentioned are sweet and often served after dinner.
If you are new to wines I would suggest a Muscato (or Muscat), and Ice Wine or perhaps a Sauternes.
These come from various regions around the world and are your typical "dessert wines" All are light in color and very sweet. They can be found at your local wine and spirit store. Someone there will be able to help you pair a particular wine with your dessert.
Enjoy!

NO!

Apparently you've never tried chianti. It is a very dry, astringent wine and would not go well with dessert.

I am not any kind of wine expert so I really can't suggest a good dessert wine. All I can do is tell you that chianti ain't it!

I suggest you you go to a liquor store with a good wine selection and ask advise there.
