What Is The Job Title For Someone Who Transports Wine? I used to know a girl who took orders from wine and spirit stores, transported the wine/spirits, and temporarily held onto the wine when needed. I don’t remember her job title though, just that it paid well. Does anyone know what this position is?
View CommentShe would be considered a Merchandiser. There is not a specific name for people who transport wine vs. other products. For instance, those people who go around from Coke or Pepsi and fill the vending machines, they are Merchandisers. Generally most beverage company’s have merchandisers who go to grocery stores and other retail stores to check on their level of product at the store and fill it if needed. They usually work for a specific beverage company.
View CommentWhat Do You Look For In A Wine And Spirits Merchant? What Information Would You Appreciate From That Merchant? I run a small Fine Wine and Spirits Shop. We have only been open for 7 months, looking to expand our services. Food sales are not an option due to licensing issues. We are attached to a hotel with full ammenties and there is a fully accredited sommelier on site. We have full access to all the hotel property.
View CommentI would look for a store that is well stocked and has a knowledgeable staff. I would like to have choice in what I buy (perhaps more expensive brands and cheaper brands) and have many different types of wines and spirits available to me. It is also important to have a staff that is knowledgeable about the products and can make a recommendation.
Once I went to a wine and spirits store and asked the sales clerk if she could direct me towards the sweet red wines (as I don’t know much about wine, and this was a gift for a friend). She simply listed off a bunch of names quickly that I couldn’t remember and when I asked for a recommendation, refused to give me one because I wasn’t sure exactly what I was looking for. Needless to say, I left without buying anything. A helpful staff will help you out very much.
Good luck with your shop!
View CommentWhat Brand Or Kind Of Wine Will You Be Having This New Year? My Dad has this huge display of imported wines, spirits and the likes. So I really don’t know what he’ll “pick” for New Year’s Eve.
What about you?
View CommentI have been trying the wines from South Africa. They are reasonably priced, have nice labels, and, they taste great. Most liquor stores are carrying them now, some have a whole section.
Let this scroll through and it will show you some of the brands.

View CommentWhat Drinks Cause A Less Severe Hangover? Beer, wine, spirits or mixes?
View CommentI am going to a party and thinking of buying a box of wine just cos of the high drink to price ratio, but I am anxious about its effects
Ok, ignoring the other silly answers on this board “Don’t drink at parties…”
Ok so, I think to avoid hangover you should stay away from harder liquor, the harder the drink the more ethonol it has in it, which is one of the key factors to feeling crap. Wine is ok, but I don’t think it is much of a party drink, and it has to be good quality to not make you feel sick while you are drinking it. I think beer would be the best way to go, but a lager (light coloured beer) and not a malt, because malts tend to leave you feeling worse too. I think though that if you are trying to get drunk then there is nothing much you are do about getting a hangover. If you are bringing the drinks just to get maybe a little tipsy a good lager should be enough for you, and is better for parties, because it allows you to be constantly sipping a drink without getting too drunk or stinking of wine of spirits. Don’t go with vodka like the other guy said, you wont taste much, and youll be gone way too quick.
View CommentBeer is the best party drink. Wines are for dinner parties, formal ones. And spirits are for old men who are depressed and want to get drunk fast.
I Want To Start Buying A Variety Of Wines And Spirits.? Can anyone recommend a few different wines and spirits that would be good to start out with? Some major “must haves”.
View CommentSeveral wine suggestions:
1) Sauvignon Blanc – which is a nice fruity, not so dry, slightly sweet white wine, well liked and well made in California. Sauvignon Blanc is a nice priced wine that I like to use to introduce people to wine, since they don’t have the acidity and driness of Chardonnay nor the tannin bite of red wines. I would suggest Robert Mondavi Fume Blanc ($15-18), Chateau St. Michelle Sauvignon Blanc ($12-14). If you want to go higher price, try Caymus Conundrum ($22-25).
2) Viogneir – which is a French grape also made by some Californian wineries. These are not as sweet as Sauvignon Blanc, but equally as floral in smell and taste. It additionally has the crispness that I like in chilled white wine. Try Miner Viogneir ($20), Fess Parker Viogneir ($25).
3) Riesling – a wonderful German white wine. There are several different classes, so you will have to ask the salesperson, but some are sweeter and some are less sweet. The key is to look at the alcohol content – the higher alcohol, the less sweet. You want to find Riesling with less alcohol for your purpose. I would suggest some German Riesling such as Gunderloch (personal favorite is about $60, but there are a variety of other types), Leitz (again, personal favorite is about $30/half, but lots of variety), Strub ($25-35). Also can try some US Riesling, such as Wilamette Valley Riesling ($15), Chateau St. Michelle Riesling ($15).
As for other spirits, you have to try, since they are all so different. A few suggestion to start out:
1) Cognac, which is a distilled wine (sort of) from France, wonderully complex and much higher in alcohol
2) Brandy, which is also a distilled wine, also more fruity and less dry.
I never personally get into Tequila or Whisky, even though I do enjoy Tequila in my Margarita and occasionally try a martini or two. It takes some getting used to. However, getting a bottle of Tequila with Margarita kit may be fun to have around the house.
Good luck
View CommentWhats The Difference Between A Beer And A Wine And Spirits Liensce? I’m just curious I live in kentucky and I was wondering can cider be sold at a store that is licensed for beer sales only or do you have to have a wine and spirits license to sell cider in kentucky?
View CommentNot 100% on KY, but I do know that typically, there is one license for beer & wine, and another for liquor. Like the other poster says, it has a lot to do with the alcoholic content difference of spirits vs. lower alcohol beer & wine.
View CommentHard cider technically falls into the wine category. If you have the standard licenses most states do (beer & wine being the norm, with an additonal lic for spirits) then you are fine to sell hard cider.
Check with the Kentucky Liquor Control Board (or whatever the specific name of your state’s regulatory commission is). They will have specifics.
Cheers.
Is There Any Wine And Spirits Supplier In Dubai? I wonder if anyone know any wine and spirits supplier in Dubai?
View CommentWe are a trading company in China. We are looking for Cognac and
Whiskey.
Very few
in order to purchase, posses or deal with alcohol in the United Arab Emirates you have to have a special pass that basically says you are not muslim.
if you are in China, there are likely much easier and cheaper places to get Cognac (france, where its from) and whiskey (UK, America, & Canada mostly)
